Thibaut Courtois is one of the longest-serving players in the Real Madrid squad currently, having arrived at the Santiago Bernabeu from Chelsea in 2018.

During his time at the club, the 33-year-old Belgian international has proven himself to be one of the best in the business, playing an integral role in the success that Los Blancos have achieved in that period.

Real Madrid want to renew Courtois until 2028

As such, Real Madrid have decided to offer Thibaut Courtois a new contract which will keep him at the club until the summer of 2028, reports AS.

The Belgian shot-stopper’s current deal runs out in 2026 and there had been brief speculation about Real Madrid wanting to sign and groom Joan Garcia to replace him as the club’s No. 1 in the coming seasons.

However, given Courtois’ quality and his standing within the club, Real Madrid have decided to keep their faith in him and offer him an extension until 2028, while Garcia has signed for Barcelona.

Indeed, the Merengues have no doubts as far as Courtois is concerned – they want him to stay. In fact, they are prepared to break one of their long-standing rules – not offering multi-year extensions to players over 30 – because of the trust they have in him.

The new contract will be offered after the FIFA Club World Cup, with the player’s camp already indicating they are very positive about the development.

Should Courtois accept the contract offer, which would run until 30 June 2028, he would be 36 years old at the time and would complete ten years at Real Madrid.
