On the pitch, Xabi Alonso’s Real Madrid continue to smile, with a perfect run of victories since the start of the season.

Meanwhile, off the pitch, the capital club is waging a parallel battle they consider vital both for their own interests and for Spanish football: the ‘Negreira Case’.

Real Madrid not letting up

According to MARCA, the Real Madrid hierarchy are adamant. They will not let up in demanding sanctions over Barcelona’s payments to Jose Maria Enriquez Negreira, the former vice-president of Spain’s refereeing committee.

Club sources insist they will wait for the court’s ruling, while keeping FIFA updated on the matter.

UEFA could also intervene if a court determines that sporting corruption took place – an option the body has never ruled out.

For days, Real Madrid TV has broadcast comparative statistics on refereeing decisions in matches involving themselves and Barcelona over recent years, including examples they argue apply to the current season.

The aim is to highlight what they consider consistent unequal treatment.

Real Madrid’s campaign, in particular, targets the Barcelona presidencies of Sandro Rosell and Josep Maria Bartomeu, seen as ultimately responsible for the payments and their consequences.

Former Barça executive Albert Soler, later Secretary of State for Sport, is also in the spotlight for his potential role across both institutions.

Relentless pursuit

Real Madrid’s leadership is leaving nothing to chance. They are following every detail of the legal proceedings in Barcelona.

Their formal involvement in the case is evidence of this, and they intend to seize every opportunity to demand reparation for the damage caused by years of repeated payments to Negreira.

With Bartomeu and Rosell under the microscope, the Spanish capital club intends to exploit every opening to demand accountability for what they describe as years of repeated payments to Negreira.
