Over the past few days, there have once again been speculations that Real Madrid are interested in signing Liverpool defensive heavyweight, Virgil van Dijk.
The veteran Dutchman’s contract at Anfield expires at the end of the season and it is still unclear as to whether he will sign a new deal with the Reds or move on as a free agent in the summer.
It has given way to speculations about his future, with rumours suggesting that Real Madrid see him as a stop-gap option to reinforce their defensive line in the short term.
However, according to MARCA, Real Madrid have no interest in signing Virgil van Dijk on a free transfer in the summer window.
This is not the first time that the veteran Netherlands international has been linked with Los Blancos. Rumours of a potential transfer had popped up towards the end of 2024 as well, and the club had shot them down.

Once again, when asked whether the rumour should be considered credible, the response from Real Madrid has remained unchanged – Van Dijk is not part of the club’s future plans.
The belief within the Spanish capital club is that this is yet another instance of agents using the media to create speculation, linking players with top clubs to generate interest.
Similar situations have occurred before, including with the Liverpool defender months ago and, more recently, with Joshua Kimmich of Bayern Munich.
While these are players appreciated by Real Madrid’s technical staff and management, the interest has never gone beyond admiration.
The Spanish and European champions hold concrete interest in another Liverpool star, Trent Alexander-Arnold, who is also set to become a free agent in the summer. But, as far as Van Dijk is concerned, there is simply nothing from the club’s side.
