Following recent reports, including one from Ramo Fuentes in Mundo Deportivo, it has been learned that no immediate action will be taken regarding the racist insults made during the recent El Clasico.

Although deeply concerning, these incidents did not directly impact the flow or outcome of the game, leading the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) to take a more procedural approach.

They will await an official report from La Liga before beginning any formal proceedings. Similarly, the Secretary of State will act once a recommendation for sanctions is put forth by the Anti-Violence Commission, and perpetrators are identified.

This means a partial closure of the Santiago Bernabeu stadium, as of now, is not under consideration.

In response, La Liga has filed reports with the police, while Real Madrid have opened an investigation as well. This move is intended to lay the groundwork for addressing these acts with an appropriate level of scrutiny.

A primary question now stands: what consequences might Real Madrid and the offenders face as a result of these incidents?

To begin with, within the RFEF, disciplinary procedures depend heavily on formal reports from referees. Since these insults occurred in a manner that made them difficult to document, disciplinary action through a referee report becomes unlikely.

This means the RFEF may rely on La Liga’s official weekly complaint to initiate an extraordinary review, which could extend the investigation period to at least a month..

Furthermore, the Anti-Violence Commission will review the reports received and then suggest appropriate sanctions. Once proposed, the related government body will begin a formal investigation, which is expected to span two to three months.
