Real Madrid have already signed four players this summer, and now they are set to finalise their first departure. Dani Ceballos has already been told by Jose Mourinho that he has no future at the Bernabeu, and thus far, he has been seeking a way out over the last couple of weeks.

Ceballos has been linked with Ajax, while Juventus have also shown interest in his services. However, neither will be signing him, as it is almost taken for granted that the midfielder will return to boyhood club Real Betis, with whom he is already in talks with. Real Madrid have already agreed to forego any transfer fee, always they will save the final year of the 29-year-old midfielder as part of the arrangement.

According to Diario AS, an agreement between Betis and Ceballos is getting closer, although it is progressing closer than planned due to a slight difference in demands. The Real Madrid man has been told that he must take a significant salary reduction in order to return to Andalusia, and although he is prepared to do so, there is not yet a full agreement.

Nine-year Real Madrid spell coming to an end for Ceballos

Real Madrid signed Ceballos from Betis back in the summer of 2017, but while he promised much after 105 appearances for Los Verdiblancos before turning 21, he failed to reach the standards expected of him by those at the Bernabeu. He also struggled during consecutive loan spells at Arsenal between 2019 and 2021, although he did have some success during the latter years of Carlo Ancelotti’s tenure when he became a more important player.

Nevertheless, it will be a case of what could’ve been for Ceballos at Real Madrid. His exit should be confirmed in the next couple of weeks, as efforts continue to shift the deadwood in Mourinho’s squad.
