La Liga giants Real Madrid have identified star performers at Premier League sides Arsenal and Manchester City as leading summer transfer targets.

This comes amid an ongoing search for reinforcements at left-back.

Incoming Blancos headmaster José Mourinho is understood to have made clear to the club’s board his desire to bring in reinforcements on the left of his backline with a view to next season.

The Portuguese’s ideal profile comes in the form of a player capable of lining out at both full-back and centre-half.

With as much in mind, Florentino Pérez and co. have drawn up a shortlist of targets. And according to Diario AS, two names have been underlined in red atop this list:

‘Currently, two names are being considered: Croatian defender Gvardiol from Manchester City, and Italian Calafiori from Arteta’s Arsenal.’

Despite being well aware of the high costs likely to be involved in a deal for either stopper, the Bernabéu brass are ready to do whatever it takes to provide the returning Mourinho with his dream squad.
