In an interview with AS, the Brazilian reflected on the pivotal moment that shaped his career.

“Before signing for Madrid, everything was already done and I had signed for Barça. It’s true. But my father told me that Madrid had called us and that I had to choose.

“It was very easy for me. I knew what I wanted and what my dream was. I didn’t hesitate. And here I am,” Rodrygo explained.

When asked about what might have happened had his father not guided him, he was clear about his priorities.

“I was at Santos and I started playing well. Barça came after me and I’ve always said that it’s a great club and that I have a lot of respect for them.

“But Madrid was my dream and my decision was easy to make. I couldn’t wait any longer for Madrid and when the time came, we did what we had to do.”

Rodrygo’s loyalty and dream of success at Real Madrid remain as strong as ever, especially with the upcoming clash against his former near-club, Barcelona.

Last season, Los Blancos suffered heavy defeats against the Catalan side in La Liga, Copa del Rey, and the Spanish Super Cup, making the upcoming encounters even more significant.

“Whenever you sign for Madrid, you think about winning the Champions League and scoring the decisive goal against Barça.

“Hopefully [we can beat them this season],” Rodrygo said, showing his focus on helping Madrid reverse last season’s disappointments.

With his dream realised at Real Madrid and his eye on major trophies, Rodrygo embodies the club’s attacking ambition.

His near-transfer to Barcelona now only reinforces the narrative that he belongs in the white jersey, and his determination to succeed against Barça will be one of the key storylines in this season’s El Clasico.
