Andriy Lunin has always been an enigma at Real Madrid. Having joined the club back in 2018, the Ukrainian international has always been rated highly, but has never shown the quality to truly dismantle Thibaut Courtois.

However, Lunin has delivered whenever called up, especially in times when Courtois has suffered from injuries. This season has been no exception.

But with Courtois soon returning, the future of Lunin at Real Madrid has been uncertain, with recent reports claiming that Los Blancos are looking to sell him in the coming summer.

If so, Lunin could become a part of Real Madrid’s massive overhaul in the summer of 2026, which is likely to see the departure of many unwanted players from the first team.

However, despite the recent reports, it appears Real Madrid are not looking to get rid of Andriy Lunin just yet.

According to The Athletic, sources close to the Ukrainian international claim that he is still a part of Real Madrid’s plans for next season, meaning he will continue to serve as the primary alternative for Courtois.

It seems Real Madrid highly value the services provided by Lunin, whose confidence and quality make him an excellent alternative for his Belgian teammate.

Having found a reliable alternative for Courtois, Real Madrid are not looking to change, especially with Lunin still having a long-term contract at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Lunin, for his part, has been linked with a move away from the Bernabeu multiple times. But he has resisted the idea of doing so, despite being offered more game time elsewhere.

The goalkeeper is happy with the city and is used to life in the Spanish capital. Lunin, therefore, is unlikely to be included in the list of potential departures at the Bernabeu this coming summer.
