La Liga heavyweights Real Madrid have been left fuming over a major decision in their meeting with Girona.
This comes after Xabi Alonso’s troops were denied a potentially decisive late penalty.
Los Blancos marked their return to action a short time ago, making the trip to the Estadi Montilivi for a league meeting with Girona.
Real headed into the matchup aware that a three-point haul was needed to leapfrog arch rivals Barcelona back to the summit of the table.
When all was said and done, however, they were forced to settle for a share of the spoils for the 3rd outing in succession.
After Azzedine Ounahi opened the scoring late in the first-half, Kylian Mbappé’s spot-kick culminated in an eventual 1-1 draw.
As alluded to above, though, many of a Blancos persuasion are of the opinion that their side should have been afforded the chance to complete the turnaround courtesy of a 2nd penalty.
Replays showcased the fact that contact was indeed made, but the team of officials evidently concluded that it was not sufficient to send the Brazilian down.
A major call in the ongoing race for La Liga supremacy…
