The powers that be at La Liga giants Real Madrid were putting preparations in place to part with head coach Carlo Ancelotti earlier this month.

That’s according to Relevo, who have on Saturday provided an insight into the situation.

The understanding is that Ancelotti’s future essentially hinged on the outcome of Real’s meeting with Osasuna, prior to the international break.

After back-to-back defeats at the hands of Barcelona and AC Milan, Florentino Pérez and co. had made the call to send the club’s headmaster on his way, in the case of a loss to Osasuna.

Los Blancos, in fact, had gone as far as to line up Ancelotti’s replacement, in the form of ex-Blancos star Santiago Solari, who currently acts as director of football at the Santiago Bernabéu.

In the end, no such move was deemed necessary, as Real Madrid returned to winning ways in explosive fashion, to the tune of a 4-0 triumph.

But the news goes to showcase the fact that, should his side suffer another dip in form this season, Carlo Ancelotti’s place in the dugout is far from secure.
