According to a recent report from SPORT, Real Madrid are closely monitoring Lyon’s attacking sensation Rayan Cherki, joining a growing list of European powerhouses including Arsenal, Manchester City, Liverpool, and Manchester United.

The 21-year-old French talent has enjoyed a standout season and is emerging as one of the most sought-after young players in Europe.

Cherki has been nothing short of brilliant this campaign, racking up an impressive 12 goals and 18 assists in just 39 matches.

His flair, vision, and creativity have drawn widespread praise across the continent, and it is no surprise that some of the biggest clubs are now circling.

Lyon’s financial troubles

What makes the situation even more intriguing is Lyon’s dire financial position. The French club is reportedly in more than €500 million of debt, and despite efforts to reduce their wage bill, they remain under the spotlight.

With the looming threat of relegation to Ligue 2 due to financial mismanagement, Lyon may be forced to offload even their most valuable assets this summer.

This spells opportunity for Real Madrid. While Cherki is under contract until 2026, the club’s urgent need to balance the books means a sale is increasingly inevitable.

And with the transfer market fully aware of Lyon’s vulnerable situation, top clubs will likely try to drive the price down, knowing that the French side has very little negotiating power.

Decision to make for Real Madrid

In Cherki, Real Madrid would get a versatile attacking talent who can fit into their long-term vision. With the future of players like Luka Modric still uncertain and Toni Kroos retired, Cherki fits the profile of a player who could be moulded into a key figure.

It is worth noting that Paris Saint-Germain tried to sign Cherki last summer, but the player remained loyal to Lyon.

That might not be the case this time around, as the club’s situation worsens and Cherki’s stock continues to rise. Whether it is the Premier League or La Liga, a bidding war seems almost guaranteed.
