The brass at La Liga giants Real Madrid have kicked into negotiations with a member of the club’s frontline, over the terms of a new contract.
That’s according to market insider Fabrizio Romano, who points towards Gonzalo García as the player in question.
Youngster Gonzalo is for his part of course fresh off something of a breakout summer in the colours of Real Madrid.
Afforded a surprisingly prominent place in Los Blancos’ XI at the Club World Cup owing to an illness being suffered by Kylian Mbappé, the 21-year-old went on to take full advantage of his chance.
All told, Gonzalo featured from the off in all six of his side’s fixtures in the USA, chipping in with five direct goal contributions along the way.
And as alluded to above, the significance of such efforts has evidently not gone unappreciated on the part of those behind the scenes at the Santiago Bernabéu.
As per a report from journalist Fabrizio Romano:
‘Real Madrid are in active talks over new deal for Gonzalo García. Decision made in July about plan for striker to stay after excellent Club World Cup as top scorer. New contract expected to be done as Gonzalo wants to stay… and wear legendary #9 shirt.’
