The future of Vinicius Jr. at Real Madrid continues to generate discussion. The player’s contract runs until 2027, which makes 2026 a decisive year in determining whether he will renew or leave the club.
Both the club and the player intend to sign a new contract and continue together, but the main obstacle is financial.
Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is willing to offer the Brazilian superstar a salary improvement, while the winger is asking for a renewal bonus that would make him the highest-paid player in the squad.
All this, coupled with the tense relationship between Vinicius and manager Xabi Alonso, has led to the renewal talks getting stalled completely.
With renewal talks expected to restart soon, Real Madrid have taken a firm stance on the matter, reports Defensa Central.
Perez and his closest circle believe that agreeing to such a demand from Vinicius would set a dangerous precedent for the institution, and they will therefore not accept the request from the 25-year-old star.

Moreover, there is an ultimatum handed to the attacker – either he accepts the conditions placed on the table by the club or he will be put on the market for around €150 million in the summer.
It means that the Brazilian international now has six months to decide his future – either renew or accept being placed on the market.
Even as his future continues to be a topic of debate, Vinicius has sent a series of signals towards Real Madrid at the start of 2026.
As soon as the year began, the No. 7 published an Instagram story showing an image of him displaying the Real Madrid shirt after scoring a goal, accompanied by the following words: “May 2026 be an incredible year. Hala Madrid Always. I love you all.”
On 1 January, the winger surprised everyone with another Instagram story showing him training in the gym at his home demonstrating that he is highly motivated as he begins 2026 after a disappointing last year.
