Real Madrid plan to enter the market for a new central midfielder in the summer transfer window to fill the void left by the departures of Toni Kroos and Luka Modric in the last two years.
The Merengues are aware of the lack of a midfielder who can control and dictate the tempo from the centre despite the plethora of players at the manager’s disposal in the centre of the park.
Names like Kees Smit and Vitinha have been mentioned as potential targets for the Spanish capital club, but one name that continues to be linked with is Manchester City ace Rodri.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Real Madrid are still tracking Rodri, amid uncertainty over his contract situation at the Etihad Stadium.
Real Madrid’s primary objective is Vitinha. However, the club are aware of how difficult it would be to prise him away from PSG. Even so, they will try to pursue the Portuguese international, but if, as seems likely, they are unable to sign him, Rodri is seen as an alternative.

The seasoned midfielder is a key figure for Man City and for the Spanish national team. His contract runs until 2027, although City have already presented him with an offer to extend it until 2029.
For now, he has not signed, and that is where Real Madrid come into the picture.
Rodri has been on the radar of the Madrid club for some time. His name has been linked with a move to the Santiago Bernabeu for quite some time, although the club appeared to have ruled him out after his serious injury, but that is not the case.
Real Madrid have not lost sight of the Spanish midfielder. They are monitoring his physical condition after overcoming an injury that kept him out for a year.
For now, the club are only monitoring Rodri, and will consider making a move in case an opportunity arises this summer.
