Real Madrid legends respond to news of Raphaël Varane’s retirement | OneFootball

A pair of one-time teammates of Raphaël Varane at Real Madrid have on Wednesday taken to social media, to send messages of support to the Frenchman.

This comes, for those who may have missed it, after Varane announced the decision to call time on his legendary playing career.

After suffering a serious knee injury whilst lining out for Como – whom he joined during the summer – last month, the iconic stopper made official his call to hang up his boots through a statement on the Serie A outfit’s social media channels this morning:

Messages of support and well-wishes, in turn, have since poured in for a player who it feels like the game will be losing far too soon.

Two such messages came by way of former teammates in the Real Madrid dressing room, with fellow countryman Karim Benzema having taken to Instagram to write:

‘Bravo my fumier you’re the best’

As much was then followed by Sergio Ramos – alongside whom Varane formed one of the most formidable defensive partnerships in the game’s recent history – posting:

‘So many memories, so many battles together, so many great moments. On the pitch, we had a natural understanding with each other. Enjoy this new phase in your life, Rafa. All the best, my friend. See you soon!’
