Luka Modric’s future at Real Madrid remains unresolved, but the Croatian maestro has made his stance clear—he wants to continue at the club for another season.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Modric’s desire is to sign a new deal that keeps him at the Santiago Bernabeu until June 2026, reinforcing his long-standing commitment to Los Blancos.

Despite his contract expiring at the end of the season, Real Madrid have yet to make any concrete moves regarding an extension.

However, the club is satisfied with the level of performance Modric has delivered this season, and the growing expectation is that he could stay on for another year.

For the veteran midfielder, the prospect of appearing at the 2026 FIFA World Cup as a Real Madrid player is a key motivation.

That said, Modric is aware of the realities of his age and the evolving dynamics within the squad. He is open to renewing his contract, but only under the condition that his playing time is carefully managed.

The 39-year-old does not wish to be overused and understands that his role must be adapted accordingly.

Real Madrid, meanwhile, are in no rush to make a decision. The club traditionally evaluates contract renewals in April or May, and Modric’s case will follow the same timeline.

A significant factor in the club’s decision-making process will be their transfer plans. If Madrid decide to bring in a new midfielder, it could impact their stance on Modric’s future.

However, at this stage, signing a midfielder is not a priority for Real Madrid this summer.

With Modric’s determination to continue playing at the highest level and Madrid’s satisfaction with his performances, a contract renewal could be on the cards. But as always, Los Blancos will take their time before making the final call.
