After a disastrous start to his coaching career at Real Madrid, Alvaro Arbeloa’s side has done well to get back on track.

But that hasn’t stopped Real Madrid from looking at new coaches for the summer of 2026, with Jurgen Klopp said to be at the top of the list for president Florentino Perez.

For the longest time, it was thought that Klopp would not be interested in leaving Red Bull. But recent reports suggest that he might be open to returning to coaching, knowing that Real Madrid are likely to approach him in the summer.

However, Klopp’s ‘total football’ may come at the cost of ‘total control’ as far as Real Madrid are concerned.

Klopp’s demands at Real Madrid

According to The Touchline, as relayed by Defensa Central, Klopp has set forth some strict demands if he is to take over the coaching role at Real Madrid next season.

The German wants total control of the project and higher decision-making powers, akin to what Xabi Alonso had demanded before joining Los Blancos.

Klopp also wants to get rid of two Real Madrid players, Dani Carvajal and Ferland Mendy. These two are not part of Klopp’s plans, should he become the next Real Madrid boss.

Carvajal’s contract at Real Madrid expires at the end of the season, whereas Mendy is likely to leave Los Blancos next summer anyway.

This means that Trent Alexander-Arnold might end up staying at Santiago Bernabeu, even though recent reports suggest he might leave the club just a year after joining them.

Alexander-Arnold has worked with Klopp during their time together at Liverpool and would want to work with the German once again.

However, these are only hypothetical demands and it remains to be seen whether or not Klopp remains keen on leaving Red Bull next summer.
