Dani Ceballos’ future at Real Madrid remains up in the air, with the 28-year-old midfielder once again linked with a move back to Real Betis.

Although he is under contract until 2027, the player’s name has been regularly mentioned in transfer rumours this summer.

It is known that Real Betis are eager to bring their former player back, and Ceballos himself has not ruled out the possibility. In fact, he is open to Betis and any other club that might come forward with an offer that suits both him and Madrid.

However, the main obstacle in this case is financial. Despite Ceballos reportedly being willing to lower his wages, Betis are currently unable to meet the demands of a potential deal.

Madrid hesitant to let him leave without replacement

Real Madrid’s position is clear that they are not actively looking to sell Ceballos. The club still values him as a useful squad player, especially in a season that could stretch their midfield depth.

Unless a proper replacement is lined up, Madrid are unlikely to let him leave. So far, they have not identified anyone who fits the bill.

Ceballos, meanwhile, feels increasingly sidelined due to the fierce competition in midfield. With stars like Jude Bellingham, Federico Valverde, Aurelien Tchouameni and Eduardo Camavinga in the mix, regular minutes have become difficult to come by.

Sparking frenzy

The Spaniard is now preparing to report back for training on Monday and recently posted an Instagram story showing him lifting dumbbells with the caption, “Last day of training before the start.”

What caught fans’ attention, though, was the background track he chose for the post: the song “I Want to Be Free.”

This quickly sparked speculation among supporters that the message might not be so innocent – possibly a hint at his desire for a new challenge.

For now, a move seems unlikely unless Betis can find the funds or Real Madrid change their stance. But with the transfer window still open, Ceballos’ situation is certainly one to watch.
