Real Madrid never considered signing club legend amid injury crisis | OneFootball

The injury of Dani Carvajal has accentuated Real Madrid’s problems in the defensive department, forcing the club to consider signing players in the upcoming January transfer window.

As part of the solution, it has also been suggested that the club consider signing some free agents to add more depth to the defensive unit.

Former defender Sergio Ramos, to that end, had emerged as a potential option for Real Madrid. The veteran centre-back, after all, is currently a free agent after seeing out his contract at Sevilla.

Real Madrid never considered this

However, a recent report from MARCA has confirmed that Real Madrid never considered the possibility of re-signing Ramos.

Regarded as one of the best central defenders in the 21st century, Ramos played for Real Madrid for 16 years, making 671 competitive appearances in the process.

During his time at the Bernabeu, Ramos won several La Liga titles and four Champions League titles, before eventually leaving the club in 2021.

Nevertheless, Real Madrid did not consider signing Ramos as a short-term fix for the ongoing injury crisis in the defensive unit.

It appears the Spanish champions are thinking about the future and are not too keen on signing past players as short-term solutions.

This is perhaps why Los Blancos are now reportedly considering the signing of Trent-Alexander Arnold in January, though the final decision will be made in the next few weeks.

Ramos, for his part, remains a free agent. But he has been closely linked with a move to the United States, with San Diego FC emerging as a potential destination.
