According to journalist Fabrice Hawkins, Ibrahima Konate has reached a full agreement with Real Madrid and is set to become a new player for the Spanish giants after the World Cup.

The journalist mentions that the deal is finalised, with all terms agreed between the defender and the club ahead of an official announcement.

Notably, Konate has agreed a contract running until 2030 and will formally complete his move once his international commitments with France come to an end.

The French centre-back arrives with extensive experience at the highest level of European football and is expected to play a major role in Madrid’s plans moving forward.

A strong French core

Furthermore, his arrival will also strengthen the growing French core within the squad, as Konate is set to join compatriots Kylian Mbappe, Aurelien Tchouameni, Eduardo Camavinga and Ferland Mendy, creating an even stronger connection between Real Madrid and the French national team setup.

The timing of the agreement is particularly significant, as defensive stability has been one of the biggest talking points surrounding Real Madrid over the past two campaigns, with injuries, inconsistency and squad depth issues exposing weaknesses that were rarely seen during the club’s most successful years.

By securing a defender entering his prime years, Madrid believe they are investing in both the present and the future.

It is said that an official confirmation could arrive within the next 24 hours, making Konate one of the first major additions of the summer.

An underrated signing

While attacking signings often generate the headlines, Real Madrid’s success has historically been built on strong defensive foundations.

Konate’s profile fits exactly what the club have been searching for. He combines physical dominance with experience in elite competitions and has regularly faced some of the best attackers in world football.

His signing is also notable because it fulfils a promise made by Florentino Perez during the recent presidential election campaign.

Speaking before the vote, Perez publicly hinted that Konate was one of the elite defenders he intended to bring to the Santiago Bernabeu if re-elected.

“I can assure you that if I remain president of Real Madrid, one of the world’s top defenders, Konate, will play for Real Madrid starting next season.

“And he won’t be the only top defender to join us if I stay at the helm of Real Madrid.”

With Perez retaining his presidential chair, Konate will become his first signing of the new term, with Denzel Dumfries following suit.
