It will be the summer of changes at Real Madrid, starting with the imminent appointment of Jose Mourinho as manager, which will be followed by alterations to the squad.

As reported previously, the Portuguese tactician has already spoken to the club and asked for defensive reinforcements.

At least one centre-back is expected to arrive in the summer while the club will also look for a backup right-back after announcing Dani Carvajal’s departure.

Real Madrid could also sign a left-back

Now, according to journalist Mario Cortegana (h/t Madrid Xtra), Real Madrid are not ruling out the possibility of signing a new left-back in the summer either.

This is despite Los Blancos splashing a whopping €50 million on signing Alvaro Carreras from SL Benfica last summer.

The 23-year-old Spanish defender has not entirely convinced in his debut season with the Real Madrid first-team squad.

However, the club continue to back him and see him as a solid bet for the present and the future.

Fran Garcia could leave

But, beyond Carreras, Real Madrid’s options at left-back become scarce. Ferland Mendy has been sidelined with yet another injury and is expected to miss several months of the new season.

Meanwhile, as per the journalist, Fran Garcia, who has had to play second-fiddle at the club since returning from Rayo Vallecano, is willing to consider his options in the summer and could end up leaving.

It must be remembered that Garcia had come close to joining Bournemouth in January, and an exit in the summer could become a reality.

In that case, Real Madrid will be forced to enter the market to reinforce the left-back position as Mourinho insists on having quality depth across all positions.
