Real Madrid’s summer transfer plans have always seemed to include a desire to sign a new midfielder for Jose Mourinho’s squad.

Although it was revealed earlier that Los Blancos did not expect any changes in midfield as things stand, the potential exit of Eduardo Camavinga can still change the situation.

Now, according to Defensa Central, Real Madrid have been offered the chance to sign Adam Wharton from Crystal Palace as they continue to assess possible midfield reinforcements.

Intermediaries from England have offered the 22-year-old midfielder to Madrid for around €120 million, a huge figure for one of the Premier League’s most admired young players.

Real Madrid have not responded to the proposal yet and no decision has been made. That is important. This is an offer placed on the table, not an advanced negotiation.

Still, Wharton’s profile is interesting. Since the departures of Toni Kroos and Luka Modric, Madrid have been looking for more control and clarity in midfield, and the Englishman offers just that.

A very expensive midfield option

Wharton has become one of the biggest revelations in England after an excellent season with Crystal Palace, where he played close to 4,000 minutes across 51 matches.

Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City have been monitoring him for months, while Manchester United and Tottenham could also enter the race.

Such Premier League competition is always going to increase the price, but that should not be daunting for Real Madrid either.

Los Blancos have followed him closely in recent months and value his profile, but €120 million is not a small decision, especially in the current squad context.

Jose Mourinho may want another midfielder, but Madrid cannot simply keep adding expensive players without exits.

Sales are key to the operation

That is the key point. Real Madrid already have a crowded squad, with Denzel Dumfries also now officially added, and the club know they must sell before making another major move.

Eduardo Camavinga is the clearest name on the exit list, while Aurelien Tchouameni has also been mentioned in wider midfield discussions.

With Enzo Fernandez publicly ruled out by the club, Wharton becomes another name to watch, but only under the right conditions.

Should Madrid decide to move, this is the kind of operation that requires discipline. Wharton is young, talented and Premier League-proven, but €120 million is superstar money.

If Mourinho truly sees him as the missing engine of the midfield, Madrid may study it. However, it would be quite a surprise if Los Blancos went down this road this summer.
