Real Madrid have played a significant role in a new mega deal for Liverpool owners FSG. It could change things dramatically.
FSG are dipping their toes into the world of multi-club football. Although, they've been trying to do that for nearly two years now.
The return to the fold of Michael Edwards and Julian Ward was on the back of such ambitions. Only, attempts to find a suitable club have fallen flat.

Up to now, anyway. The Daily Mail claims due diligence has been completed on Getafe and that a deal at this point would be a 'formality' should FSG decide to make an offer.
Everything is heading in a positive direction and looks good. It really just comes down to whether Liverpool's ownership group view it as a sound financial decision.
It's one that would have a large effect on Liverpool, too, as they'd have a foothold in a major European league. Clubs, like Manchester City and Chelsea, typically use their 'linked' clubs to get a hold of young players they otherwise couldn't play.
Whether you agree with it or not, it's something FSG want to get involved in. And it turns out they have Real Madrid to thank for this opportunity.
The Daily Mail claims the initial interest in Getafe came on the back of 'an informal conversation between Real Madrid CEO Jose Angel Sanchez and [Getafe owner] Angel Torres'. Things have snowballed since then, with talks becoming more formal back when Getafe played a friendly in England over the summer.
That conversation, then, has developed into something quite massive for FSG. It may well give them a foothold in La Liga, up against Real Madrid. It could also significantly boost Liverpool's potential reach.
