It hasn’t been long since Real Madrid were serious about signing Liverpool star Ibrahima Konate on a Bosman deal next summer.

But in recent weeks, their priorities have shifted, with the club more interested in the services of Dayot Upamecano, another player who is the final year of his contract.

Few could blame Real Madrid as Upamecano has emerged as one of the best performing defenders in the Bundesliga and is a key reason why Bayern Munich have been so dominant in the Bundesliga this season.

Real Madrid and PSG have already approached Upamecano

Journalist Matteo Moretto on MARCA has recently offered an update on the future of Upamecano as he looks to take the next step in his career.

As per Moretto, both Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain have approached the Frenchman, seeking the prospects of a Bosman move in 2026.

While Real Madrid certainly have the edge due to their sporting project and club prestige, PSG could prove to be a formidable rival for Los Blancos.

This is largely due to PSG’s identity as a French club. They can, therefore, offer Upamecano the opportunity to return to his homeland while still fighting for all major titles in Europe.

Another obstacle for Real Madrid could be Bayern Munich, who are determined to extend the contract of the Frenchman.

The club’s officials have recently revealed that Upamecano is happy in Bavaria and talks are ongoing over a possible renewal.

Real Madrid, therefore, must hope that the defender doesn’t pen a new deal with the Bavarians, if they are to have any hopes of signing the player in the summer of 2026.
