The January transfer window came and went by without Real Madrid making any moves in the market to strengthen the squad.

Given the number of injuries in the squad and the team’s performances, the need for reinforcements, especially in the defensive department, was clear.

Despite that, no players were brought in, with the only major operation taking place at the Santiago Bernabeu was the loan exit of Endrick.

Marc Guehi was offered to Real Madrid

Now, Mario Cortegana of The Athletic has reported that Real Madrid were offered a chance to sign Marc Guehi during the January window.

The 25-year-old England international had entered the final six months of his contract at Crystal Palace, who were ready to cash in on him rather than lose him for free in the summer.

As such, Real Madrid, who were in dire need of reinforcements at centre-back, were handed an opportunity to sign the former Chelsea man.

However, the Spanish capital giants ended up rejecting the chance, and Guehi, in turn, signed for Manchester City in a deal worth £20 million.

While there were significant agent fees involved, this would still be seen as a missed opportunity by Real Madrid, who could have signed a top defender entering his prime years for a relatively low amount.

Considering that Antonio Rudiger and Eder Militao have been struggling with injuries and David Alaba is not a part of the plans, bringing Guehi in mid-season could have proven to be a shrewd move.

Instead, the club administration stood firm on its stance of not making any January signings, insisting that the current squad was capable of competing for and winning trophies on all fronts.
