Real Madrid are pretty much certain to make a new defensive signing in the summer of 2026 despite investing heavily in strengthening their backline this year.
A new centre-back is set to be at the top of the agenda for the Spanish giants, given that David Alaba is expected to move on upon the expiry of his contract, while Antonio Rudiger’s future is also far from certain.
To that end, Los Blancos have identified several targets to reinforce the centre-back department, with Bayern Munich ace Dayot Upamecano one of them.
Now, according to journalist Jorge C Picon, Real Madrid regard Upamecano as a significant market opportunity and have already made contact with his representatives to express their interest.
If he does not renew his contract at Bayern Munich, the Spanish giants are seriously considering making an offer in 2026.

Several other clubs are also monitoring the situation closely, with PSG also ready to launch an offer for the French international.
As for Upamecano, the player has not yet decided whether he will remain at Bayern Munich or take up a new challenge in his career.
The German champions are negotiating with his entourage over a contract extension, although the defender is demanding significant improvement in his salary, along with a renewal bonus.
Even so, no one has ruled out the possibility of him staying in Munich. After all, Upamecano maintains an excellent relationship with his coach, Vincent Kompany, and the club’s sporting department is working hard to convince him to remain.
However, should Upamecano choose not to renew, Real Madrid will be among the leading candidates to sign him.
