Real Madrid are mulling over the possible acquisition of a new central defener in the summer transfer window.

With David Alaba and Antonio Rudiger not getting any younger and dealing with physical problems, the idea of reinforcing the centre-back department is being considered.

William Saliba of Arsenal, to that end, has been identified as a player who could be a good fit at the Santiago Bernabeu, although a move for him may have to wait until 2026.

Riccardo Calafiori also on the radars

Now, though, Fichajes reports that Real Madrid have set their sights on another Arsenal defender as a possible transfer target.

Indeed, Real Madrid are closely monitoring Arsenal and Italy star Riccardo Calafiori, one of the most promising defenders in European football.

At just 22 years old, the Italian has showcased his versatility at Arsenal, excelling both as a centre-back and a left-back. His transfer to the London club for €45 million last summer has proven to be a success, with his performances significantly increasing his market value.

Calafiori’s rapid development has not gone unnoticed by Europe’s elite clubs, including Los Blancos. His ability to adapt to multiple defensive roles and his composure at the back make him a highly sought-after player.

Calafiori to cost €80 million

Real Madrid are interested in a player of Calafiori’s profile, but securing his signing will be challenging.

Despite Madrid’s interest, Arsenal remains fully committed to Calafiori. His youth and potential make him a key part of Mikel Arteta’s project, with the manager seeing him as a reliable defender with room for further growth.

The club’s priority is to keep him for as long as possible and continue to develop his talent within the squad.

In case of a possible exit, Arsenal will not let him go for less than €80 million, a figure that complicates any potential move by the Spanish champions.

Arsenal’s firm stance makes any move to eal Madrid highly complicated. With a hefty price tag and a long-term contract in place, Calafiori seems set to remain in the Premier League – unless the Gunners receive an offer too good to refuse.
