Despite investing heavily in strengthening their defensive unit this summer, Real Madrid are plotting for reinforcements in 2026.

After all, David Alaba’s contract expires at the end of the season and is unlikely to be renewed, while some uncertainties linger over the continuity of Antonio Rudiger, whose deal also runs out next June.

Even if Rudiger stays, his injury problems, coupled with that of Eder Militao, makes it advisable for Los Blancos to look into signing at least one new centre-back.

Real Madrid eye Marc Guehi

Links to Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate are already well-established at this point, but it appears that Real Madrid have identified another potential centre-back target.

Indeed, as per reports relayed by ESPN, Real Madrid are eyeing a Bosman move for Crystal Palace and England defender Marc Guehi.

The 25-year-old centre-half came very close to joining Liverpool this past summer, only to see the transfer collapse late on the deadline day, even after an agreement was reached and medicals were completed.

Guehi’s contract though expires in 2026 and there appear to be no plans for him to renew it, meaning he will leave Selhurst Park as a free agent.

Real Madrid, who have proven themselves to be masters at free-agent signings in recent years, are considering swooping in for Guehi, who can negotiate with the club of his choosing from 1 January.

However, Real Madrid are not alone in showing interest in the former Chelsea star as arch-rivals Barcelona are also keen while Liverpool themselves will try to sign him again after the failed attempt.

A proven player in the Premier League and a leader, Guehi can be a fine addition at Real Madrid, and could turn out to be the ideal long-term replacement for Rudiger.

Whether the early interest from the Spanish capital giants translates into something substantial remains to be seen.
