As Real Madrid gear up for arguably their most important game against Barcelona tonight, in the final of the Spanish Super Cup, one player who will certainly be in focus is Vinicius Jr.

The last few weeks haven’t been good for the Brazilian international, who has become a subject of boos from his own sets of fans.

This has led to uncertainty over his long-term future at Santiago Bernabeu, while the player’s own form has been a cause for concern for Real Madrid as well.

However, heading into tonight’s final, Vinicius Jr. will have a glorious opportunity to redeem himself as he is in touching distance of a record held by three Real Madrid legends – Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and Ferenc Puskas.

As reported by Defensa Central, Vinicius is on the verge of breaking a historic record held by these three attackers: being involved in the highest number of goals for Real Madrid in finals.

Since joining Real Madrid, the Brazilian has been a monster in decisive games, having been involved in 15 goals (scoring or assisting) in finals.

This impressive figure ranks him fourth on the all-time list, agonizingly close to the top three: Cristiano Ronaldo, Ferenc Puskas, and Karim Benzema, who all share the record with 16 goal contributions in finals.

If Vinicius scores or assists once tonight, he equals the record. If he manages two contributions, he stands alone as the most decisive player in Real Madrid’s history in finals.

Facing a confident Barcelona side that is hungry for revenge after their recent league defeat, Vinicius has the chance to silence his critics.

Fate has decreed that against his eternal rival, the Brazilian can rediscover his electric form, win back the affection of the Madridistas, and cement his legacy as the ultimate big-game player.
