Sunday’s El Clasico showdown between Real Madrid and Barcelona ended in ill-tempered fashion at the Santiago Bernabeu, with both sets of players clashing after the full time whistle. It all started when Dani Carvajal confronted Lamine Yamal, likely in response to alleged comments that the teenager made earlier in the week.

Lamine Yamal is reported to have said that Real Madrid “rob teams”, which did not go down well within the club. Carvajal made his feelings clear, and that led to a scuffle between the two teams on the Bernabeu pitch.

Frenkie de Jong issued a defence of his Barcelona teammate in the aftermath of the match, and Aurelien Tchouameni also downplayed the situation too. As per Marca, the Real Madrid midfielder admitted that he has little problem with Lamine Yamal, nor with what was allegedly said.

“I like that, at the end of the game we saw a little bit of something between the players, we helped each other to compete. When I was little I watched those things against Barcelona and calm. I like it, it’s just words, there’s no bad intention. With the determination he helped us a little more.

“If Lamine wants to speak there’s no problem, the game is played on the pitch and we won. We’re very happy with our game and we’re going to look forward.”

Tchouameni reflects on winning first Clasico of the season

The victory in El Clasico lifted a weight off the shoulders at Real Madrid, whose big-game mentality had been questioned in the aftermath of their crushing defeat to Atletico Madrid in September. Tchouameni was pleased that he and his teammates put that to bed, although he was clear it is only one match.

“Against Atletico we didn’t play the game we wanted. Today we had another opportunity to show what we can do and we have to continue like this, but it’s only worth three points. We have other points to win and we have to improve.”
