Real Madrid star Arda Güler has sent a public message of apology the way of his native Türkiye’s people.

This comes after the midfielder and his teammates were sent packing from the 2026 World Cup with little more than a whimper.

Türkiye were back in action in the early hours of Saturday, locking horns with South American outfit Paraguay in their 2nd group stage fixture.

Vinzenzo Montella’s troops headed into the matchup in the knowledge that a positive result was something of a must, following a disappointing opening day defeat at the hands of Australia.

When all was said and done, however, Türkiye were again condemned to the wrong side of the result…

Despite Paraguay being reduced to 10 men late in the first-half, The Crescent-Stars could not find a path back into proceedings, en route to a 1-0 defeat.

The aforementioned Arda Güler featured from the off in the clash, but was one of many to struggle in efforts to make a decisive impact in the final third.

Speaking to the media post-match, with his side’s elimination from the World Cup confirmed, the Real Madrid star therefore made use of the opportunity to issue an apology to the Turkish people:

“We want to apologize, we feel ashamed. We all play for top clubs and we should do way better on this competition.

“In two games, we scored zero goals and it’s not acceptable.”
