A leading member of the midfield ranks at La Liga giants Real Madrid has been pencilled in for surgery on the back of the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup.

That’s according to the reliable Mario Cortegana of The Athletic, who point towards Jude Bellingham as the player in question.

Bellingham, for his part, has long been playing whilst some way short of full fitness. This comes owing to a shoulder injury, which has seen the England international suffer a series of relapses over the course of the last 18 months.

Bellingham, when taking to the pitch, sports heavy padding on the shoulder in question, no doubt hampering his mobility to at least some degree.

In turn, it should perhaps not come as a major surprise to hear of those behind the scenes in Spain’s capital at last preparing to green light surgery for their engine room star.

As per a report from The Athletic:

‘Real Madrid are planning for midfielder Jude Bellingham to have surgery on a persistent shoulder problem after the 2025 Club World Cup.

‘Specialists consulted by The Athletic indicated Bellingham will likely be sidelined for around 12 weeks while he recovers from the operation and is expected to miss the start of the 2025-26 La Liga season.’
