A member of the defensive ranks at Real Madrid was subjected to a round of altogether grim chants during the club’s most recent outing.
The player in question? Raúl Asencio.
Real Madrid of course marked their post-international break return to action last weekend, in a La Liga trip to Anoeta to face Real Sociedad.
When all was said and done in San Sebastian, Los Blancos emerged on the right side of a 2-1 result.
As alluded to above, though, en route to as much, one member of Xabi Alonso’s squad was singled out for needless abuse.
As cited by Marca, La Liga have released a statement condemning those responsible for chants of ‘Asencio, die’ at Anoeta:
‘In the 68th minute of the match, a group of home fans located in the Fondo Sur Bajo stand (called the Aitor Zabaleta Stand) sang the chant “Asencio, die” in a coordinated and choral manner for approximately 10 seconds, in reference to the visiting player.’
