Real Madrid forward Gonzalo García has been recognised for his impressive performance last season with Castilla in the RFEF Primera Federacion.
The 21-year-old forward won two awards at the Spanish Footballers’ Association (AFE) gala that took place in Madrid on Monday night.
Indeed, Gonzalo was one of the main figures of the fourth edition of the awards ceremony, receiving two distinctions: the award for Best Player of Group 2 in the Primera Federacion and the Enrique Castro “Quini” Trophy as the league’s top goalscorer.
The Real Madrid academy product scored 25 goals, becoming the player with the most goals in a single season since the creation of the Primera Federacion.
With that total, he also matched Mariano Diaz’s record for the highest number of goals scored in a regular season for Real Madrid Castilla in the 21st century.
Gonzalo, now a part of the Real Madrid first-team setup, was unable to attend the AFE Gala as he is currently away with the Spain U-21 national team.

However, the striker did manage to send a message expressing his gratitude to his teammates and those who voted for him.
“As you know, I’m with the under-21 national team and can’t be at the gala. I wanted to thank everyone, the AFE (Spanish Footballers’ Association), and my teammates who voted for me,” Gonzalo said in the video he sent for the gala.
“It’s an honour, and I want to remember all my teammates from last year at Castilla and the coaches. Congratulations to all the award winners,” he added.
After making waves with his performances during the summer’s FIFA Club World Cup, Gonzalo was brought into the first-team fold at Real Madrid by manager Xabi Alonso.
However, the young Spaniard has found minutes extremely hard to come by this season, leading to speculations about his future.
