Liverpool may finally get their man after years of waiting. A disaster will surely trigger a transfer.

Real Madrid crashed out of the UEFA Champions League this week in dramatic fashion. They went to Bayern Munich knowing they'd have to overturn a first-leg defeat and did appear to be on their way to doing that.

But with the aggregate score level with four minutes to play, disaster struck. Eduardo Camavinga, who had only come on as a substitute, received a second yellow card in idiotic fashion.

That completely turned the match and Bayern grabbed a winner just three minutes later. They even found a fourth goal on the night with the very last kick, winning the night 4-3 and the tie 6-4.

The usual inquest has now started as Real Madrid, nine points behind Barcelona in La Liga, look set to go another year without a trophy. Mundo Deportivo reports that they'll look to sign players this summer, mainly in midfield.

Camavinga isn't one of those considered 'untouchable' and that's a suggestion that Real Madrid will try to replace him. Enter Liverpool, who have long wanted the Frenchman.

The Reds tried to sign Camavinga before he joined Real Madrid - it was essentially a two-horse race at the time, even if Liverpool were quite some way behind. The midfielder has never managed to lock down a role in their team, however.

There would certainly be a place for him at Anfield, where there's a desperate need for a more defensive midfielder to add bite in midfield. If Camavinga truly is on the outs in Madrid, Liverpool can take full advantage and sign a player they've wanted for many years.

Eduardo Camavinga: Situation Summary

Champions League Exit and Red Card Controversy

Eduardo Camavinga is currently at the centre of a heated debate in Madrid following Real Madrid’s dramatic exit from the Champions League on 16 April 2026. During the quarter-final second leg against Bayern Munich, the 23-year-old midfielder was sent off in the 86th minute after receiving a second yellow card. At the time, the aggregate score was level at 4–4, but his dismissal proved "instrumental" in the subsequent collapse, as Bayern scored twice in the closing stages to win 6–4 on aggregate. Manager Alvaro Arbeloa and teammate Jude Bellingham have since publicly criticised the referee's decision, calling the red card a "joke," though the fallout has intensified scrutiny on Camavinga’s discipline and form.

Struggling Form and Transfer Listing Rumours

The 2025–2026 campaign has been widely described as Camavinga’s most difficult season since joining the club in 2021. As of 17 April 2026, he has made 36 appearances across all competitions, contributing two goals and one assist, but he has increasingly been utilised in a secondary role. Reports surfacing on 14 April suggested that Real Madrid had placed him on the "transfer list" for the upcoming summer window to fund a midfield rebuild. While journalist Fabrizio Romano clarified on 15 April that the club is not "actively trying" to sell him and the player wishes to stay, he noted that Camavinga is no longer considered "untouchable." Liverpool and Manchester United remain on high alert, with the Reds viewing him as a versatile replacement for outgoing senior figures, potentially available for a significant fee despite his contract running until June 2029.
