Thibaut Courtois’ return to goal this season has been fabulous with the Belgian star looking to be back to his very best level.

So far, the veteran has started all of Real Madrid’s official games this season and has only gotten better with each performance.

His display against VfB Stuttgart earlier this week was his best showing of the season by far as he made six vital saves to keep his side in the game and eventually seal a win.

Unending wait for Lunin

Courtois’ great run of form indeed comes as welcome news for Real Madrid fans and management alike for the player has been a pillar for the team for years now.

One player directly affected by his success, however, is Andriy Lunin who recently penned a new deal with the club.

As revealed in a recent update by MARCA, Lunin must wait longer to earn a start for Los Blancos this season despite signing a renewal and his overall run of great form.

The last official game Lunin played for the club was against Villarreal last May and he is yet to make an official debut this season.

Carlo Ancelotti is indeed planning on rotations in the team for the upcoming league clashes against Espanyol and Deportivo Alaves.

However, no change is expected in goal with Courtois likely to retain the starting position on both nights.

In fact, the report adds that Ancelotti sees Courtois to be an undisputed starter come what may with a rotation planned only if the player is injured or suspended.

Lunin must thus wait patiently for his chance which may come in the Copa del Rey or perhaps even later. The renewal until 2030 has not provided any assurance of playing time, or so it seems.
