The injury woes are mounting up for Real Madrid in this international window as Franco Mastantuono has pulled out of Argentina’s squad.
Madrid’s summer signing suffered a knock during the last La Liga game against Villarreal, but he still joined the national team.
Argentina confirmed that Mastantuono has been suffering from muscle fatigue ahead of the win against Venezuela. He will also miss the next friendly against Puerto Rico.
The 18-year-old will return to the Spanish capital to undergo further medical tests to determine the extent of his injury.
Elsewhere at Parc des Princes, Kylian Mbappe suffered a big injury scare during France’s 3-0 win over Azerbaijan in the World Cup Qualifiers last night.
There were a lot of questions about Mbappe’s fitness after suffering a minor ankle injury against Villarreal, but that didn’t prevent him from joining the national team.
The 26-year-old scored a stunning solo goal and provided an assist for Adrien Rabiot, but went down in pain towards the end before being replaced by Florian Thauvin.
France head coach Didier Deschamps revealed that Mbappe has discomfort in the same injured ankle, and his condition will be assessed.
It will be interesting to see whether France will risk their captain’s fitness by playing him in the next game against Iceland.
Whereas at Madrid, they will be sweating over Mbappe’s injury, who has been a phenomenal force this season.
He has netted 14 goals and two assists in 10 games, and his absence is the last thing Los Blancos want.
Dean Huijsen also picked up a muscle injury with the Spanish national team earlier this week, which will keep him sidelined for one to two weeks.
Madrid will face Getafe, Juventus and Barcelona after the international break.
