Real Madrid are gearing up for perhaps the most important game of their season as they take on Bayern Munich away at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday night.

Having lost the first leg of their UEFA Champions League quarter-finals 1-2 at the Santiago Bernabeu, Real Madrid have a huge challenge ahead of them to progress to the next round of the competition.

The 1-1 draw against Girona in La Liga coupled with Barcelona’s victory over Espanyol meant Los Blancos are already nine points behind their rivals. With the title seemingly out of their grasp, the Champions League remains the only avenue for a trophy.

Mbappe back in training

Leading up to the trip to Germany, Real Madrid have received a positive update as Kylian Mbappe has returned to group training today.

The French superstar suffered a nasty cut above his eye during the previous league game against Girona after catching an elbow from an opponent – an action which surprisingly went unpunished by the match officials.

As a result, the 27-year-old was not part of the training session with the rest of the group on Sunday.

While his availability to face Bayern Munich was never in doubt, seeing him back working with the rest of the squad in training will come as a relief for the coaching staff and the fans.

Interestingly, instead of wearing a protective mask for his injury, Mbappe trained with a bandage covering the cut he suffered against Girona.

For Real Madrid to stand a chance to come back against Bayern Munich, they will need the France superstar firing on all cylinders, especially after he endured a poor outing against Girona last Friday.
