Gonzalo Garcia’s firepower helped Real Madrid steamroll Real Betis last night in their La Liga clash at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Such was the youngster’s dominance that fans and the club faithful did not feel the void left by Kylian Mbappe’s absence on the night – something that comes as massive praise to Gonzalo’s talent.

Yet, there was always a lingering hope that the French talisman would return in time for the Supercopa de España semifinal against Atletico Madrid later this week – something that now appears close to impossible as relayed by Mario Cortegana.

A pessimistic update

The journalist relays that the player is ruled out for the clash against Diego Simeone’s side and that he will not be able to participate in any capacity in the team’s next game.

In fact, reliable journalist Miguel Angel Diaz adds that Mbappe’s participation in a hypothetical Supercup final is also uncertain, and it is clear the player still needs time to return to his best.

Between today and tomorrow, his situation will be evaluated and a decision will be made on whether or not he travels with the team to Jeddah.

After all, it is pointless for him to go through the strenuous travel if he will not be contributing on the field.

It is clear that Mbappe will push till the final training session to ensure that he is available at least for the final, but the final call will likely rest with the medical staff.

In fact, it may be better for Real Madrid to focus on his complete recovery rather than rushing him and risking an aggravation.

In Mbappe’s absence, all signs point to Alonso persisting with Gonzalo Garcia against Atletico Madrid.

The academy star, thus, will play a very important role for the team midweek if they are to secure a berth in the final of the four-team event.
