Vinicius Jr’.s contract situation is becoming one of the biggest talking points surrounding Real Madrid, with the upcoming FIFA World Cup now emerging as a major factor in the negotiations between the club and the Brazilian.
According to AS, discussions over a new deal have remained completely frozen for almost ten months despite both parties previously appearing close to reaching an agreement.
The forward remains contracted until 2027, but the lack of progress has ensured that uncertainty continues to surround one of Real Madrid’s most valuable players.
While neither side appears concerned about an immediate separation, the passage of time is beginning to shift the balance of power, especially with the World Cup rapidly approaching.
According to the outlet, Real Madrid and Vinicius were close to finalising a contract extension before negotiations unexpectedly stalled last summer.

At the time, there was confidence that an agreement would eventually be reached after both parties agreed to revisit the matter later, although that follow-up has yet to happen.
With Real Madrid currently immersed in a presidential election process and several important sporting matters taking priority, there appears to be little expectation that negotiations will resume before the World Cup.
Now, in that context, a strong World Cup campaign would increase Vinicius’ leverage when discussions restart.
Not only would it further strengthen his standing at Real Madrid, but it would also increase interest across Europe should his future remain unresolved.
AS also notes that when negotiations previously broke down, the player had already lowered his original salary demands considerably.

Initial requests reportedly approached €30 million per season, but both sides eventually moved much closer together, creating optimism that a deal was near before everything came to a halt.
Notably, when Vinicius last renewed his contract in 2022, he agreed to a progressive deal worth an average of €15 million net per season.
That figure places him among the club’s highest earners, but comparisons with Kylian Mbappe continue to influence the discussions.
That is why the current negotiations go beyond simple wages, as they are also about status and recognition within the team.
