It appears that Real Madrid are hell bent on ensuring that the La Liga fixture between FC Barcelona and Villarreal does not end up being played in Miami, USA.
In what would be a historic event, the Villarreal vs Barcelona match, on 20 December, has been moved from Estadio de la Ceramica to the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, making it the first Spanish league game to be played overseas.
But Real Madrid and several other La Liga clubs are opposing the initiative, stating that it would distort the competition.
As already reported, the Spanish capital club have approached the Higher Sports Council (CSD) to express their concerns and block the match from being moved outside of Spain.
Not stopping there, Real Madrid have now taken another drastic step in their efforts to try and stop La Liga’s “Miami plan” from coming to fruition.
According to Cadena SER, Real Madrid have written a letter to the Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) requesting them to block the Villarreal vs Barcelona match being played in the US.
Even though UEFA has already given the green light for the match to go ahead in Miami, it still needs final approval from CONCACAF, as the game will be played in its territory.

And, Real Madrid have approached the Confederation to solicit their help in ensuring that Villarreal vs Barcelona does not take place in the USA.
The report states that the current La Liga leaders are prepared to exhaust all possible avenues to ensure that the match is not moved to a location outside Spain.
Barcelona president Joan Laporta, earlier today, addressed Real Madrid’s opposition to the proposal, stating that they are going ahead with La Liga’s plan.
“We’re already used to this. The Miami issue is fully agreed upon with LaLiga and Villarreal. We see it as an opportunity to bring joy to the Barça fans in the United States and to promote Barça’s image in an interesting market,” he stated.
When asked about institutional relations with Real Madrid, Laporta said: “They are what they are. Madrid are free to do whatever they want. We’re following the plan, which is to play the match on December 20 in Miami.”
