Lamine Yamal’s meteoric rise at Barcelona was not one many saw coming, especially given the player’s age and how it is not normal for teenagers to show such maturity in their games.

The youngster’s impact, unsurprisingly, made Barcelona’s arch-rivals Real Madrid look out for their own young success story, and they splashed cash in the summer to buy a certain Franco Mastantuono.

Belonging to the same age group as the Spanish winger, the Argentine starlet was seen to be Real Madrid’s big signing destined to compete shoulder to shoulder with Yamal.

While his start to life at Real Madrid has been decent, it is still blatantly clear that the Catalan star is significantly ahead.

Real Madrid gem speaks on Yamal

In a recent interview, Mastantuono opened up about comparisons with Lamine Yamal and where he ranked himself when compared to the Barcelona superstar.

“I don’t like comparisons. It’s always nice to have rivals with the level of Lamine Yamal or Barça or the Spanish national team,” he began, labelling Yamal a rival.

The young Argentine star then spoke on how he used Yamal’s success as motivation to do better and saw it as proof that age is no limitation in football.

“It’s always a motivation and hopefully it will be like that for a long time.”

Mastantuono then admitted that the Barcelona star was superior to him as matters stand, speaking with honesty and a real understanding of Yamal’s brilliance.

“Today, Lamine is better. He is showing an incredible level, he is in an incredible moment.”

“I just arrived in Madrid, I’m in a process of adaptation that I hope will be quick. I hope I can pick up the rhythm of Europe soon and that it will be a long story to tell and with many games,” he added, defending himself.

Finally, the young winger spoke with confidence that his best is yet to come, indirectly hinting towards the comparisons being postponed for a more realistic battle.

“My best version hasn’t arrived yet. I had a good time at River Plate that made me get here, but it’s not my ceiling.”

“I’m going to keep working and improving. It is my goal, to stay at the top for a long time in a club that is the largest in the world. I want this to last a long time,” he added, making it clear that his rivalry with Yamal will go on.
