Real Madrid target could leave for free with still no contract agreement despite talks | OneFootball

Dayot Upamecano is one of several defenders that Real Madrid are keeping tabs on heading into the summer transfer window.

The Merengues remain on the lookout for a new centre-back for next year and are targeting free-agent signings rather than spending big.

As such, Upamecano, with his contract at Bayern Munich expiring at the end of the season, is one of the names on the list, along with Ibrahima Konate and Marc Guehi.

Renewal agreement still not reached

As has already been confirmed by Bayern officials, they are in talks with Upamecano’s camp to renew his contract.

However, according to the latest update from Florian Plettenberg, an agreement between the French international and Bayern Munich is still not in sight, and as such, the possibility of a free transfer remains on the table.

Upamecano has a long-term contract offer from Bayern on the table, but is not fully satisfied with the terms that have been proposed.

As such, the former RB Leipzig star and his agent have presented their demands to the Bundesliga champions and plan on making no concessions.

So, the ball is in Bayern Munich’s court now and it is up to them to decide whether to raise their offer to meet the player’s demands or let him go for free.

But, the report does mention that the Bavarians’ sporting director, Max Eberl, is absolutely determined to keep Upamecano at the club and is prepared to do everything possible to retain him.

The French international might not be at the top of the wishlist for Real Madrid, but they will be keeping a close eye on the developments at Bayern Munich.
