Liverpool could find themselves fending off renewed interest from Real Madrid this summer, with reports in Spain suggesting Alexis Mac Allister has emerged as a leading target for the Spanish giants.
Mac Allister has been one of Liverpool’s most influential figures since arriving at Anfield, yet the past season proved far more challenging than the title-winning campaign that preceded it. As Liverpool slipped away from the standards they set during their Premier League triumph, the Argentine midfielder endured a more difficult year alongside many of his team-mates.
According to Spanish news outlet El Desmarque, Real Madrid are preparing for a significant summer of recruitment and have identified Mac Allister as a player capable of strengthening their midfield. The report claims the midfielder is firmly on the club’s radar ahead of the transfer window.
For Liverpool supporters, it is another reminder of the stature Mac Allister has built since joining the club. His technical quality, intelligence in possession and ability to dictate the tempo of matches have made him one of the most respected midfielders in Europe.

Interest from Real Madrid is nothing new. The Spanish club have been linked with Mac Allister on several occasions over recent seasons, but El Desmarque now suggests the admiration remains strong as plans are drawn up for the next phase of squad rebuilding at the Bernabeu.
The report states that any move would depend on developments surrounding Real Madrid’s presidential elections, with Florentino Perez facing challenger Enrique Riquelme. Should Perez remain in charge, Mac Allister is reportedly viewed as a priority addition.
Real Madrid are said to believe the midfielder’s performances should be judged within the context of Liverpool’s collective struggles rather than as evidence of any decline in his own standards. Despite Liverpool’s inconsistent campaign, Mac Allister continued to demonstrate the qualities that helped establish him as one of the Premier League’s standout midfielders.
Mac Allister remains under contract with Liverpool until June 2028, giving the club a strong position should interest intensify.
However, comments from his father and agent, Carlos Mac Allister, have added another layer to the conversation.
“Alexis is under contract until June 2028 and, at this moment, we are not holding public talks with any other club – and so far, the club has not negotiated with us to renew the contract,” he said.
Those remarks do not indicate an imminent departure, but they do highlight that no extension discussions have taken place publicly. In the modern transfer market, such situations often encourage speculation, particularly when clubs of Real Madrid’s stature are involved.
Liverpool remain protected by the length of the agreement, yet any uncertainty surrounding future negotiations is likely to attract attention across Europe.
While reports from Spain continue to gather momentum, Liverpool are unlikely to view Mac Allister as a player available for transfer.
The Argentine international has become a key figure in midfield, bringing balance, composure and creativity to the side. His ability to influence matches in different roles has made him one of the most valuable members of the squad.
For Liverpool, rebuilding after a disappointing campaign will require dependable leaders and proven performers. Mac Allister fits that description perfectly. Losing a player of his calibre would create a significant challenge, regardless of any financial package that might be offered.
That reality is one reason why Liverpool supporters will view the latest Real Madrid links with caution rather than alarm. Interest from elite clubs often follows elite players.
As the transfer window approaches, attention will inevitably focus on whether Real Madrid transform admiration into action.
El Desmarque reports that Mac Allister would be open to the possibility of a move to La Liga, although no concrete offer has yet materialised. For now, the situation remains one of interest rather than negotiation.
Liverpool retain control of the circumstances through a contract that runs for another two years. Yet when Real Madrid identify a target, stories tend to gather pace quickly.
Whether this becomes one of the defining transfer sagas of the summer remains to be seen. What is certain is that Alexis Mac Allister’s reputation continues to grow, and both Liverpool and Real Madrid know exactly what qualities he would bring to any midfield.
