Racism and violence once again took centre stage at Civitas Metropolitano as Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid played out a 1-1 draw this past weekend.

The referees even had to suspend the game in the second half due to home fans throwing objects at Thibaut Courtois.

The referee’s match report detailed eleven separate offensive chants, which is why Atletico Madrid are under pressure.

Real Madrid feel tired

As reported by AS, Real Madrid have expressed exhaustion and frustration following yet another hostile encounter at the Civitas Metropolitano.

While the club acknowledge that the majority of Atletico fans should not be singled out, it points to a small group of ultras in the Grada Baja del Fondo Sur who continue to tarnish the image of the derby.

The club have admitted to feeling sadness but more so anger at the repeated incidents.

While acknowledging that Atletico Madrid made efforts to curb racism during the match, the presence and actions of Frente Atletico, the ultras group responsible, remain a persistent issue.

Real Madrid highlight that since the removal of their own ultras group, Ultras Sur, the atmosphere at the Bernabeu has significantly improved.

Amid growing discontent from within and beyond the world of football, there is mounting pressure on Atletico Madrid to take stronger action against these repeat offenders.

Real Madrid, along with many football fans, feel that these incidents are far from isolated, with calls for a more definitive resolution growing louder.

Real Madrid, for their part, are firm that the responsibility lies on Atleti itself to address these problems.
