Vinicius Junior became the hot topic the last time Real Madrid played at Santiago Bernabeu, with the attacker facing unprecedented amount of jeers and whistles.

The constant booing left the player frustrated, with Vinicius responding by changing his profile picture on Instagram, replacing a picture with the Real Madrid shirt with a picture of him wearing the Brazil shirt.

As Real Madrid take on Real Betis at the Bernabeu, in what will be the team’s first match in the new stadium, the repeat of that incident may have serious implications.

Real Madrid worries about Vinicius’ reception

In the last segment of the Carrusel Deportivo show (h/t Cadena SER), experts debated how Real Madrid are worried about how Vinicius Junior will be received when he steps foot at the Bernabeu yet again today.

It appears there is a palpable sense of anticipation and uncertainty within the offices at Valdebebas regarding the crowd’s reaction.

The situation is delicate because it clashes with the club’s strategic interests. Vinicius is currently in the middle of contract renewal negotiations – an offer he has not yet accepted.

The club understands that while the Bernabeu crowd is sovereign, having a key asset booed by his own fans during such a critical rebuilding process is counterproductive.

The club believes the fans will not boo him preemptively before the match starts. However, the fear is that the truce will be fragile; depending on how the match unfolds, the whistles could return instantly if the player is not at his best.

With Kylian Mbappe out due to a knee injury, Vinicius faces a golden opportunity to lead the line and turn the situation around.

However, the margin for error is nonexistent. Fans have not forgotten his recent spoiled behaviour or the scene during the Clasico substitutions. If he fails to perform, the Bernabeu may once again voice the displeasure that has been simmering for weeks.
