Real Madrid are going to be in the market for a central defender in 2026. Whether that player comes in the winter or summer transfer window remains to be seen. However, they won’t be able to land top talent from PSG.

Ibrahima Konaté is the reported top target for Real Madrid, considering that he can leave Liverpool next summer as a free agent. Konaté is entering the final year of his Liverpool contract, and with no extension in place, his future at Anfield remains uncertain.

Reports indicate that PSG and Real Madrid are keeping a close eye on the situation and could step in if contract negotiations hit a snag before the January transfer window.

Foot Mercato previously reported that Konaté has been linked with several top European clubs, including PSG, Real Madrid, and Barcelona. For the time being, Liverpool have decided to keep the defender.

Konaté’s uncertain future arrives at a crucial point for Liverpool, adding extra pressure as the club aims to stay steady during a challenging season.

While Konaté is the obvious target for Real Madrid, they might not stop at just adding one central defender. However, they could also miss out on the Ecuadorian.

Fichajes reports that Pacho’s rise hasn’t gone unnoticed by Europe’s top clubs. The report says Real Madrid had been seriously considering a move for him in recent months to strengthen a backline that needs reinforcements.

However, the report adds that the possibility of seeing Pacho in a Madrid shirt now seems to have faded, as the club has shifted its focus to Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konaté, who could arrive on a free transfer this summer.

The report also notes that Pacho’s high price has been a major factor slowing the deal. PSG, aware of his potential and importance to their project, reportedly aren’t willing to let him go for anything less than a huge fee.
