Real Madrid will not reinforce key position in January amid injury woes – report | OneFootball

Real Madrid’s injury woes in the defensive unit continued when the club lost new signing Trent Alexander-Arnold to yet another injury.

The Englishman, who was already recovering from an injury incurred in September, has picked up yet another knock that will keep him sidelined for at least two months.

This is coupled with the fact that veteran Dani Carvajal is still yet to fully recover after undergoing surgery. He remains out, thus leaving Real Madrid completely vulnerable at right-back.

Keeping that in mind, one would assume that Real Madrid may enter the market for a new right-back in the upcoming January transfer window.

No new signings expected at Real Madrid

However, according to Defensa Central, Real Madrid are not planning any new right-back signings in the January transfer window.

This is despite the fact that coach Xabi Alonso does not have a recognised right-back at his disposal, now that both Carvajal and Trent are sidelined.

Instead of signing a new right-back, Real Madrid will be relying on the versatility of Federico Valverde, with support from Raul Asencio.

Both players have played in the position in the past and have performed admirably. Real Madrid also have Eder Militao, who has operated there in the past as well.

Therefore, unless the injury crisis worsens in the coming weeks, Real Madrid are unlikely to even consider the possibility of signing a new right-back in January.

This falls in line with Real Madrid’s policy to not invest heavily in the winter transfer window, although the decision will put immense pressure on players like Valverde and Asencio.
