Despite widespread speculation and fan discontent, Real Madrid are not planning to part ways with Rodrygo this summer, unless the player himself demands it.

According to journalist Ramon Alvarez de Mon, the club’s position is clear that the Brazilian winger’s departure will only happen if he explicitly asks for a transfer, and that has not occurred.

Rodrygo’s 2024/25 campaign has been far from his best. The arrival of Kylian Mbappe has not only stolen the limelight but also pushed the 24-year-old further down the attacking hierarchy.

Once a key figure in decisive Champions League nights, Rodrygo has struggled to maintain consistency, with his final few months of the season marked by poor performances and mounting criticism from the Bernabeu faithful.

Thrown under the bus

There was a time, particularly towards the end of La Liga, when an exit seemed inevitable.

The player’s form had dipped so significantly that many supporters and pundits viewed him as a prime candidate to be sacrificed amid Madrid’s attacking surplus.

However, as per recent reports, Rodrygo recently met with the club’s hierarchy to clarify his situation. The outcome? An agreement to stay at least one more season and try to recover his best level.

That puts the ball firmly in Rodrygo’s court. Madrid are not actively trying to push him out, nor are they listening to offers.

The only scenario where his exit would be entertained is if he personally requested it, and so far, he has not. This show of patience from the club suggests they still believe in his potential.

Rodrygo’s case is unique. At 24, he has not quite blossomed into the world-class attacker many expected him to become. Despite this, he remains a valuable squad member, particularly given his ability to play across the front line.

However, the upcoming pre-season and the 2025 Club World Cup may prove decisive. With Xabi Alonso introducing fresh ideas and tactical shifts, Rodrygo could be handed one final opportunity to reclaim his place.
