Real Madrid travel to Liverpool this evening aiming to get their Champions League defence back on track.
It’s been an unconvincing start to the season for the European champions, who have taken just six points from their opening four games. Defeats to Lille and AC Milan have left Carlo Ancelotti’s side with work to do to secure progress to the Round of 16.
The Spaniards face a tough trip this evening, against a Liverpool team who top the Premier League and have taken maximum points in Europe. Arne Slot’s side have won 13 of their last 14 games in all competitions but have not beaten Real Madrid in the last eight meetings between the teams.
The injury problems are mounting up for Carlo Ancelotti. Vinicius Junior was the latest big name to be ruled out at the weekend after picking up a thigh issue against Leganes. The Brazilian is set to miss three weeks with the Intercontinental Cup final on December 18 targeted for his return.
Given his fine record against Liverpool and form this season, Vinicius’ absence is a major problem for Real Madrid. He joins Dani Carvajal (ACL), David Alaba (ACL), Eder Militato (ACL) and Rodrygo (muscle) on the absentee list. Aurelien Tchouameni is also likely to miss out.
Lucas Vasquez could return to the team after injury.
Real Madrid predicted XI: Courtois; Vasquez, Asencio, Rudiger, Mendy; Camavinga, Modric; Valverde, Bellingham, Diaz; Mbappe.
Liverpool host Real Madrid in the Champions League on Wednesday 27th November 2024. Kick-off at Anfield is 8pm GMT.
Liverpool vs Real Madrid will be broadcast on TNT Sports 1, TNT Sports Ultimate and Discovery+.
